D.I.Y. Astro – Jupiter Versus Saturn

gladstone9qpGladstone Gander

The Jupiter-Saturn axis is a really quick, cool & easy way to do a fast-take on charts – both natal & the transits.

The past of your chart where you have Saturn sitting natally (where it was when you were born) or where it is currently transitting is where you have to just knuckle under, work hard and be super-mature. There are no short-cuts in your Saturn area and it’s stupid to even try. Just accept it as your area that needs to be worked hard. So if you have Saturn going through your 6th House (health & admin, to summarise) you don’t fuq around with your filing. You keep warranties.  You go to the gym. You stop smoking. You honour the Saturn area.

Jupiter – both your natal Jupiter and where-ever it is transitting – is where you are loaded with luck, you can get away with a bit of risky behaviour & happily apply all the “my universe is forever abundant and smiling upon me with adoration” style affirmations & just flowing. It’s where you can take a punt. Natal Jupiter is your blessing in life. Nurture it with an attitude of faith and trust in a higher power for brilliant results.  Saturn is not, ahem, evil but it’s vibe is more like the pleasure you get from having accomplished a trip to the dentist and done your tax return on the same day. It’s sober.

So, for a quick astro-thrill, check out Saturn and Jupiter both natally and by transit. Hone & work the Saturn area with an awesome attitude of grown-up work ethic & humility. Let rip with the largesse & expansive Semper Fidelis style exuberance where Jupiter lolls.

Ok… So I am trying to make some sense of this.

I have both Jupiter and Saturn in Virgo (natal) in my 11th house. Jupiter is transiting through Aqua and Saturn is going through Virgo.
How do I be super mature in Virgo? In my friendship groups?

I am a little confused. Can anyone help me please?

I will have a little think, but am also a newby at all this….

11th house is friends but it is also our connection to groups, clubs, organisation, anything that links us to society at large. Maybe you have a friend that has saturnine qualities right now (they feel constrained somehow, they are working hard through some emotional merde or something?) or maybe you are trying to build some kind of social network or group and this is being blocked/there is some struggle or difficulty associated with it?

Also you are going through Saturn return – not sure if you caught the great rant on that a couple of months ago (well worth checking out)

so that gives you aqua in the 4th (hopefully i have that right) – so this is luck in 4th house matters – so home, as in the physical manifestation of your home – maybe someone will give you some help with renovations or painting or give you a cool piece of furniture/or you will luckily find/buy a cool piece of furniture. or could be some luck to do with your parents, especially reconnecting with your mum in some way or some other luck in terms of how you are nurtured and loved?

      hope that helps

v a-g-g, You’re experiencing Saturn return and the next chapter in you life. The mature one. Some find Saturn return difficult but I think that as it is where your natal Saturn already is, it’s a vibe you’ve lived with and know instinctively. In your case natal Jupiter is there to jolly up the return. Your natal Saturn will have sobered your Jupiter influences all your life but also lighten the load. You probably take your friendships seriously but have fun with them. 11th is also dreams and aspirations so you probably take these seriously too but with optimism. You could be experiencing a re-think about who really are your friends and who you want to take into the future with you. As it’s Virgo you really will be weighing up the pros and cons.

Both these readings resonate… I have to say.
Humour is my first and best defense and I am trying to work out who is good in my life at the moment… or maybe what I want my life to be a little.
I find myself thinking back to Edith Warton’s “The Age of Innocence” (which I read in year 12… much to my disgust a the time). More particularly of this passage:

He perceived with a flash of chilling insight that in future many problems would be thus negatively solved for him; but as he paid the hansom and followed his wife’s long train into the house he took refuge in the comforting platitude that the first six months were always the most difficult in marriage. “After that I suppose we shall have pretty nearly finished rubbing off each other’s angles,” he reflected; but the worst of it was that May’s pressure was already bearing on the very angles whose sharpness he most wanted to keep.

Sometimes I feel like I have to give up my ’sharpness’ too much. Or am told that the people who allow me to keep them are no good for me.
Just trying to work it through.

I don’t need to reconnect with my mother… she calls me twice a week and I go to Yoga with her and my father once a week. Anymore connecting and I think I would be moving back home!

I love thinking about jupiter transits – i have jupiter in the 1st house and like to think i have its lucky star shining on my path….

Jupiter is now in my 9th house – travel and higher learning – and in 10 days i set off on 6 months of overseas adventure and embark on a Phd – all funded by my university and i continue to be paid full lecturer salary (i am a taurus after all – adventure + security please)
some of it is research (interviewing evil taxation lawyers in India who facilitate the use of tax havens) and some of it is yoga (a month in bali and a month in Indian himalaya)

I feel soooo lucky – that my department will let me take 3 months leave without pay – that they will fund my research in India – this is pure jupiter at work.

My husband (saggi with jupiter transiting his 4th house) has lots of jupiter luck too. As i raved above 4th house is home renovation and family of origin

Home reno luck: While we are away the person staying in our house is putting up post and rail fences (to contain our wild and unruly cows) and a friend (a german builder) approached us to transform our unused dairy into a workshop – he completely re-roofed the shed, put in three rooms, 6 windows and a new door AND he pays rent – unbelievable 4th house luck

Family of origin luck: We live a long way from my husband’s parents. We have spent no more than 4 or 5 days there for the last 10 years. But this year we are going to spend 2 weeks with his parents in Bali and then 2 months living in their remote and incredibly beautiful sea side town at the end of the year.

I thought houses were static according to your natal chart? So you need to refer to that? So if you have Saturn transiting your Jupiter, then you refer to Jupiter in your birth chart, and it will tell you what house its in. If I’m wrong, please let me know!

That’s right postmod. You kind of need to be able to read the planetary glyphs to see where they are on the wheel. Transiting planets will be in green on the outside of the wheel, transiting your natal house placements.

You can also bring up a PDF chart if you click ‘additional PDF charts’ in the upper left corner of the chart screen. It lists the positions of natal houses.

Natal Saturn in Virgo in the 6th – and I’m Saturn returning as we speak so I quote….. “So if you have Saturn going through your 6th House (health & admin, to summarise) you don’t fuq around with your filing. You keep warranties. You go to the gym. You stop smoking.” Yes, yes, and yes/kinda/sorta – the gym and I are fairweather friends! I work hard at routine, I work hard at making sure I eat well, drink little, I don’t smoke, I’m a good worker, but have yet to find my true niche, so I keep plugging away.
Natal Jupiter is Virgo in the 5th – and its transiting….Aquarius, which I have nothing in, but which sits in my 11th – so a good place for it if I am Saturn returning in my house of work!!!! I want and crave mentors, so I guess I just need to make the request now to the people I work with non?
Oooh, I feel all positive and glowy now!

“so I keep plugging away” ? There is a great line in the I ching, can’t remember the hexagram right now ?
Its about how when crossing a river you should have the ‘where with all’ to be able to plug up the holes in the boat as you cross.
Your in the boat, your on the water, plugging away, filling the holes in the bottom of the boat..don’t fight the river, let it carry you further down stream..
enjoy the ride, won’t it be great when you get to the other shore and can dump that shitty boat, walk on dry land !

      1. cheshire cap’s avatar

davidl, I would have thought that as they’re both in dignity and not aspecting, that you’d be able to take each planetary influence separately. I think it maybe the aspects to each from other planets that cause the shitty boat feeling ??? eg your Mars in Cancer opp Saturn in Cap would have a “driving the car with the brakes on” effect.

My Mars and Saturn in a wide (11 deg orb) opposition on 1/7 axis so a bit like davidl, but their midpoint is at an Aries Point in 10th, so means if known for anything, it will be for driving with the brakes on. Quite a talent, wouldn’t ya say? (And can’t stand being behind those who brake off and on, off and on while they drive…)

Hey thanks for the tip V-go-go – so THAT’S where you find the transits chart – should have explored that drop down menu much earlier…!

So Saturn is screwing over my Ascendant! Yikes, that sounds quite serious.
Luckily Jupiter is having a flirt with my Venusian Sixth House – would explain how I recently drank and partied my way through the flu and out the other side.

yeah Aquarpio, Jupiter transits definitely need us to be wide open to opportunity – they won’t just come knocking at the door and fling themselves at you, but if you go knocking doors will definitely open. Hope that clears it up for you.

Saturn is in my 4th – the home?

I have had a difficult family life – growing up with mentally ill parent, and both parents regularly drama queening it up and making their marriage a farce.

It is still hard to have normal relationships- I am 30 and have only ever lived with one of my boyfriends (when i was 17). Current man I have been with for 4 years without any prospect of further commitment etc. I moved into his house (big boy share house) for 6 months of hell.

oh well – keep on buffin’ I guess

hey ariesartist, i have saturn in the 4th too…and like you had family/home difficulties growing up, and has taken me a long time to figure out what it means to have a stable home life. for me, saturn has been about completely respecting the fact that stability at home is something we need and are entitled to create, no matter what. saturn forced me to face alot of that ye olde crap and make the home i always wanted.

once thats sorted, its like everything else falls into place. thats the good side of saturn i think.

      good luck with it xx

Apparently your natal Saturn becomes your area of achievement in later life. For me in my 5th, kids and creativity. Hope so.

That’s if I survive transiting Saturn’s stint in my 7th. Beginning to feel him buzz against Uranus again. Just decided that I’m done with an old friend who I finally realised is little more than erratic and demanding. And the ex-boyfriend saga will not just die. Saturn is not fun.

Hmmm, do I go so far as to say I’m looking forward to Saturn’s move towards my Libran Pluto? Probably not.

Time to count my Jupiter blessings! He’s in my 12th house so I kinda have to wait and see how the spiritual expansion will manifest. Natal Jup’s in my 2nd conjunct Mars so I feel abundant and joyful but with a tight square to stinking Saturn I get the guilts sooo easily. But only for a wee while.

I have Jupiter with Pluto, south node and Uranus in the fourth… dunno about blessings there to be frank, my fourth house is kinda sucky. With Jupiter there you’d think I’d have some kind of aptitude for property development but no, forty years old, masses of kids, and back renting again.

Saturn is in my 11th (the apex of a Yod, the two branches of which are Uranus and Neptune), and I have wonderful friends – lots of them are older. I’ve heard that Saturn in 11 gives one a ‘lone wolf’ energy, but I am a pack wolf, no doubt about that.

Saturn natally – 10th Aries, conjunct MC – has defined my career (and sometimes my life!)
Saturn transiting – my 3rd haven’t had trouble with siblings, just haven’t been as close as we were, about to conjunct natal Pluto (hmmmm :-<!)
Jupiter natally – 3rd Aries point, have always been very close to my 3 brothers and communication is never an issue for me, boosts my Gemini rising and moon I'd suggest.
Jupiter transit – jumping in and out of 8th/9th. Coming up to opposition with natal next year. I've done more long distance travel in the last year than ever before.

Mystic I also note your astrology gambling tag, darling hubby has Venus/Jupiter conjunction in Pisces in 11th square Neptune in Pisces in 8th, trine Saturn in Gemini in 3rd.
Has had a gambling addiction for years, which I have noticed is affected when this conjunction is aspected. Mars is squaring it at the moment and he has taken action and is attending GA regularly and feeling more in control by taking this action.
Jupiter is due to pass over this conjunction in February, Jupiter return. what then?
