Astro-Courtney Love

COURTNEY LOVE BY MARIO TESTINO

Mario Testino

Have TOTALLY lost track of Courtney Love.

She’s a Cancerian – it’s her birthday on Saturday and she has Libra Rising. Hence her amazing ability to Scrub Up sensationally well when she wants to. But the reason i’ve lost track ain’t her astro.

She’s currently got Saturn opposing her Chiron and squaring her Mars-Venus in Gemini AND Lilith in Sagg so that buzzy charisma & self-belief would be a bit harder to come by. But Saturn DOES actually move, thank fuq, and she  has a while to get her shit together before Pluto opposes her Sun. Although, Pluto is presently hanging around her South Node so the Past comes up in Plutonic ways …

What I have lost track of is what she represents: Grunge Icon? Ex Riot Grrrl Still Manifesting Feminist/Iconic Music Artiste? Homicidal Ho? Genius? Victim Of Plastic Surgery-N.P.D./Drugs Et Al?  Rock Goddess? Icon of Clean Living Personified? Exhibitionist wannabe?

At the hairdressers the other day I read in one mag that she was on some hideous drug/dangerously thing and in another mag that she has embraced Kundalini Yoga to the point that she has been initiated, is becoming an instructor and altering her name. The Scorpio Sex Academic has such disdain for the woman that she cancelled her Kundalini Yoga teacher training. There were other factors, such as the celibacy, but still.

Courtney Love has a beautiful Cancerian Sun-Moon conjunction in the visionary 9th House and Eros/Mercury on her Leo Midheaven so if she moves half-way to courting her public, they will be there for her. But the last “news” on her actual website is from 2007 – her clean, sober & a Givenchy muse. I thought the Nick Broomfield doco fascinating but also that she could act in that Larry Flynt bio movie…Has she done any music of note lately? Ever?

I can’t explain why but I’ve always LOVED Courtney Love. I follow her on Twitter but I don’t know why – her posts are almost impossible to follow.

Anyway, in a world that seems to demand people behave in certain ways and be “nice” and conform to particular standards, she just does her own thing. Belligerently. And I admire it. I admire messiness way more than some pristine, ice-cool princess who has it together all the time.

On a related note: Russell Crowe is a brilliant actor. And yet people always seem to need to follow it up with “pity he’s such an arsehole – I won’t go to see his films because of that”. What?? Who CARES what he’s like as a person? The only responsibility he has to people who shell out for is films is to act well, which he does.

Mind you, I think Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise are both freaks and I don’t see any of their films – fortunately, they’re both rilly bad actors too so I’m, like, TOTALLY justified.

Except that Ben Stiller fillum with Tom in it. He was good in that. I didn’t know he was in it beforehand and thank goodness because I would have cut off my n. to spite my f. by standing on stinking principle.

I LOVE Courtney!! She’s amazing live, & absolutely has talent, just perhaps not your genre David??

HazelBBRY – I only log onto Twitter to follow her rambling stream of consciousness. Loved the bit where she let Peaches Geldoff raid her wardrobe, the banter was hilarious. Or when she let fly how crap Chris Cornell’s collaboration with Timberland was tehehehe. she’s right, it’s dreadful!

Yes she looks odd at times (stomach shrink, bad botox, drug fucked phases) but always returns to Uber-Glamazon, of high fashion level. what other rock star has as many fashion mag covers as her? she’d be 2nd to like Grace Jones?

Love any woman who masters guitar, belting out a song in 6 inch heels!!

She’s been quiet for a while. I like her, she’s out there doing her thing, and I admire anyone who copes with a violent death of a loved one – yeah she has been very messy at times, but from all appearances she has a lovely daughter – when she wants she can be a brilliant artist, and she’s no clone, nor does she exert herself to fulfil narrow minded expectations. Rock on I say!

How creepy, a friend only yesterday wanted my opinion on Courtney, do I love or hate or what! and I know this isn’t quite on the same line as what your asking but I do love her because she is actually hilarious, came across the below quote one day and it made me LOL. She put up this sign next to her computer to remind her not to blog:
“EMBARRASSES CHILD. LACK OF GRAMMATICAL CORRECTNESS AND SPELLING MAKES ONE LOOK ON DRUGS FOR SOME REASON.”
Im not sure why but I just think she’s cute. Isn’t there something crazy going on with her now to do with her/kurt’s money being stolen from her the people managing her estate or something? And she’s BROKE and trying to recover the funds?

That is hilarious. The message on her computer, I mean. Because her Twitter is a great example of looking like it’s written on a crack binge. Kind of wish I knew what a crack binge would actually looke like…

But the slyness of it. “For some reason.” She’s great.

I haven’t thought about Courtney in ages! The last thing I heard was a quote of her saying that she was going to move to London until she realised that Grandonna was residing there, saying the place wasn’t big enough for the both of them. She used a lot of F-words…..

I think her music is/was great. I really thought she was amazing musician, I would love to hear more from her.
She was amazing in Larry Flynt, some say she was just playing herself. Well that’s kind of what was amazing about her, she could go from that to quasi normal.

What’s sad is when I was growing up & loving the whole Nirvana thing, I thought it was cool, but when you grow up, it isn’t at all. It is sad to see people self destruct like that, anyway…… I hope she is ok & is back on the wagon!

I will never forget I think it was an NME interview they were at a beauticians where mid interview she ran out into the street and laid down on it. They got a great photo of her doing it. Then, I’m pretty sure she ran back into the beauty parlour screaming “wax my anus! wax my anus!” LOL!!

(I’ll have to dig up the mag if it’s still in my teenage son’s room grot to confirm if my memory is working through this flu haze).

I think Courtney Love shares a common element with Sinead O’Connor in that they do their own thing but then really suffer when they put it all out there. On one level they say they don’t care what people think, but then on another level you can tell they’ve taken too many nasty hits by revealing too much.

It’s just like – stop engaging with the press! You’re getting mauled! Eg: Sinead’s newspaper ad to ask press to stop calling her crazy.

Oh yeah, the Courtney/Sinead thing. Well, I also madly love Sinead.

CL’s biological grandmother is a terrific writer, Paula Fox. She wrote a beautiful memoir about being semi-abandoned by very reckless parents. As a young woman she gave her own daughter, CL’s mother, up for adoption and CL’s mum wrote a not-bad-at-all memoir about her relationship with her biological mother & Courtney.

It’s interesting how these things work.

Also – see, I (Courtney) love this topic – I think many of us are in that mold of not caring what people think and getting hurt through being open. There’s two things operating there, IMO:

      (1) To some degree it matters what other people think of us. others’ opinions provide us with some feedback on how we are perceived in society. Feedback we can use to moderate our behaviour, or ignore. And even though you want to be your authentic self, it also matters to most people to have a sense of belonging, which comes from being acceptable in some way.
      (2) For most of humanity most of the time we’re doing the best we can within a certain set of circumstances. Then when some random stranger on the street or in the media rips into you, it feels like you’re beign told you’re not good enough, you don’t measure up, you don’t belong. And when that feels like an attack on your attempt to be ‘authentic’ and open and to create a connection, it must be particularly gutting.

I still have that album on tape in my car – great for solo road trips when you want to feel like a rocker.
I went to see Hole years ago and it really was an amazing concert – she’s got (had) a lot of charisma. and slowly shed layers of clothes through out the gig until she eventually took her top off to show us her newly renovated breasts.
Of course the powers that be made her put a top back on.

Yes UP! ‘Miss World’ was an anthem round these parts in early uni. very ‘fuq off’ to all the pop barbie dolls. it was clever, angry and real. very indie grunge rock (which i was so into at the time). i always liked her rawness, despite also thinking she was a bit of a fruit loop at times. but i honestly think that she has talent, but also lots of unsettled stuff going on, and as previous (current?) addict of various substances she represents the need to be creative and public/intense vulnerability about actual self.

very interesting about her astro. i would TOTALLY buy a book she wrote. i think she’d have alot of interesting things to say, if she could get settled long enough to express it lucidly. she’s lived through alot.

Can you see the astro in action though?
She is a really good example of it. Her Sun-Moon in Cancer (moonie, primal feminine, wiccan, gynae-art mood woman) versus the Libra Rising that wants to be accepted by the It crowd, a Givenchy muse etc etc.
Her Sun-Moon is more (this is just off the top of my head) more like the sort of career Marianne Faithful or Yoko Ono have managed – considered artistes, remember Marianne did that song about witches? Even Chrissy Hynde…
Sun-Moon square Libra Rising…Mars-Gemini-Venus is skittish – NEEDS to be involved in intricate composing or other work. Else you do run out into the street in the middle of an interview. Mercury in leo Midheaven – the lady needs to WRITE…
Speaking of peeps polarised; this Michael Jackson comment from Nikki Finke and the comments are fascinating i.m.o.

Interesting blog she has Mystic. Nikki is certainly allowed to have her opinions but when she breaks racial barriers, writes a song to feed starving people in Africa and breaks celeb records for having given to the most charities, then maybe she’ll have something substantial to say besides negativity.

But this is America….Rant on, eh?

I saw the ceremony from beginning to end today and never moved from the t.v. Thought it was lovely and moving.

I can’t really add anything about Courtney except my daughter had some “Hole” music and some tabloids insinuated that in some instances Courtney was a bit desparate for attention like you say about the Libra thing. Wasn’t into grunge or Kurt Cobain back when so really didn’t follow him or her.

Holy trashiness. It’s a bit rich coming from a Hollywood gossip columnist.

Of course MJ’s demise is a huge story and was always going to get saturation coverage. The whole thing, his life, death and the whole media and fan frenzy is so much larger than life. I think people feel so strongly about it because he really was iconic, in so many ways, and not all of them pretty. If Salman Rushdie or Gore Vidal invented this story it would be regarded as far fetched, overblown caricature. It’s a compelling modern tragedy of mythic proportions and his story will endure, because there is so much symbolism packed into it. Peter Pan becomes Dorian Grey. The death of the inner child, the loss of innocence to the forces of greed. Add to that the real world certainty of some serious mental health problems/addictions mixed with utterly unscrupulous medical whores.

I think you were bang on the money, Mystic, when you said that his life sorely lacked any integration of the Saturn lessons. Chaotic family structure, tyrannical, whacked father, seemingly unlimited $$$, inability to accept the word no, resistance to aging, no trust, no boundaries.

Alot to the Saturnian thing with MJ. Al Sharpton, African American spiritual leader who spoke at MJ’s ceremony yesterday, stated during a conversation on t.v. referring to MJ….”arrested development”…

I like her music… provided some apt sound tracks to certain life circumstances about 11/12 years ago… will always have a soft spot for her, particularly as I don’t read tabloids and don’t care what they say – we can never know for sure what is going on with anyone else, all speculation and judgement is really just projected shadow and I prefer to see people who are acting out as suffering and in need.

My cancerian friend LOVES her…. LOOOOOOOOOVES her. In fact, its my friends 30th birthday on Sat and she wants Courtney Love books and Posters. I feel a bit torn actually, as I have always felt indifferent towards Courtney Love. She is the Rrrriot Grrl show pony, changes her sound to whatever the guy who she is fuqing at the time like… Billy Corgan and Kurt Cobain. I think that there are many more interesting and talented women in rock that are female, empowered, etc…
… I know its all about my friend and her birthday wishes… but I really don’t want to enhance the whole ‘love of Love’ thang…

What i find more interesting than her is the horoscopes of how closely 2 of the important men that were in her life, Kurt Cobain and Billy Corgan kinda eerily resembled each other. weird.
