This is a way simplistic but interesting way to think a la astro & parenting. Everyone has a more or less dominant element in their astrological charts. You can see a nifty little table that shows where planets et al are concentrated usually at the bottom of that charts. F for Fire, Air for Air, E for Earth and W for Water.
Fire Signs are Aries, Leo, Sagittarius. Earth Signs: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn. Air Signs; Gemini, Libra, Aquarius. Water: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces.
Find the dominant element & realise that that simply is your childs temperament. eg; Fire kids need to compete, shine and show off. Water kids want to be left alone in reverie a lot and thrive on music/art style pursuits. But they won’t have remotely the same desire that the Fire sign has to get in there and prove themselves via team work. Earth kids need & benefit from routine, regular eating & sleeping habits + they’re fussy about their stuff. Physical exercise grounds them but it’s not the O.T.T. variety Fire loves. Air children are amazingly easily bored & enjoy loads of mental stimulation, factoids, jokes & quizzes.
These are all obviously generalisations but it’s also fascinating how true they are and how they help peeps understand one another. A Water child WOULD enjoy meditation but it would be fairly fruitless to impose it on an Air child. Fire kids relish a challenge & can put up with the most relentless ‘motivation’ of a batso sporting parent. Air kids will be thrilled at irregular hours and spontaneity but it would make an Earth child morose.
Something to think about?

I have been really conflicted by my tendencies towards absolutely one thing and then so absolutely its’ opposite…now I know: I have 4 planets in Fire and 4 planets in Water.
I’d love to hear more on how to balance or “live with” this kind of internal conflict. Society seems to value consistency!
-
blah to what society values. i don’t know about conflict; i’d prefer to call it balance. such a contrast would (in my piscean opinion) make you more interesting and versatile. Same for our sagg friend and his twin bro’s. it’s just a matter of recognising your motivations and preferences, some days you might want to go and climb a mountain, other days you want to work on your yoga positions and read about reiki. and hey one of my mottos is “variety is the spice of life” so have fun!
-
totally right, UP, praise the whatever for internal contrasts, i would even go so far as to say that they might not only create day to day motivations and preferences but over periods of years enable one to swing into entirely different modes. adaptability is not solely the territory of the mutables, i say, LOL! makes life awesomely fun and interesting.
yes and double blah to society and convention!

oh and remember that fire and water makes steam, cooks food, etc, so the 2 forces combined makes for some really productive energy I reckon

I have a Leo and it’s always show-time. Like always. Every single day there’s a concert. She wants to be a rock star and an artist when she grows up. She is very sensitive, incredibly loud, loves a fight, loves wearing red, sleeps well and never stops running around (aries rising, libran moon).
My Capricorn is quietly confident but very emotiona. She’s musical, artistic and obsessed with reading. She’s also incredibly physically affectionate – it’s as though she’s made of velcro. She does go completely bats with some regularity and has an eccentric sense of humour (saggo moon, aquarius rising). Both of them are very very bossy. They’re a lot of fun.

This can get tricky when a good spread of elements.
My Leo Sun/Aries Moon/Virgo Asc boy is a good example of “Fire kids need to compete, shine and show off.” His fire is strongest (5 planets, sun/moon,venus, pluto and chiron) yet tempered (esp in public) by his Virgo Ascendant (modesty rules etc), which must be frustrating for him. Yet he is grounded by routine, massage etc (Virgo Asc, Saturn in Taurus?). He has the least earth in his chart so maybe Asc impt?
He is an out there child, always needing social stimulation, physical activity etc. Can be challenging to a mother with water – earth dominated chart with only fire is sun in leo. Astro has been very helpful with working out the challenges. Another thing I’ve noticed is all his personal planets are in house 7 – 12, the “out there” placement, so the fire dominance adds to his need to be out in the world.
My Aqua Sun/Toro Moon/Scorp Asc girl a different picture though. All her planets apart from moon and nn are in house 1-6. She has 4 planets in Aqua (4th) and 3 + Asc in water, followed by earth trine of venus – cap/moon – toro/nn – virgo. She is much less of a challenge but more of a puzzle if that makes sense. Scorp Asc likes it’s privacy. Mystic’s spot on with “Water kids want to be left alone in reverie a lot and thrive on music/art style pursuits. But they won’t have remotely the same desire that the Fire sign has to get in there and prove themselves via team work.” No she definitely follows the beat of her own drum and will only go for something hard if she is interested in it, not for social kudos. She is Air curious and loves research and science, and crazy humour.
Just had a lovely 24 hours with Aqua girl and her two friends – the Capricorn Comedian and the Pocket-sized Virgo for a stayover, girly night and day. Hair rinses, makeup blindfolded, dvds, shopping, chocolate making/molding and general craziness. The Pocket-sized Virgo is American and the Cap Comedian is the best mimic/actress/comedian (Pisces moon, nn in Leo), so huge laughter and fun. The Cap Comedian has destroyed Rob Pattinson’s music through her mimicry, hilarious. Just realised the Pocket-sized Virgo has her moon conj my girl’s moon and her sun is conj my girl’s nn in Virgo. Cap Comedian has her venus conj my girl’s venus and mars trine my girl’s sun and her moon is conj my girl’s jupiter.
My firey boy is with my Toro sis and hb and their boys. The Toros are firey earth suns and he is like their third son so everyone happy.
Astro is bliss.

My sun sign is a water and that is totally me! I NEED my alone time each day and my mother totally doesn’t get it. BTW, I also love writing, creating jewellery, dance, and playing a musical insturment. Artistic indeed.
I have Cap rising/Taurus Moon. However, while I like routine, it doesn’t dominate my life. I do have a lot of Cancer in my chart though. Prob explains it -
One of my Sagg Moon daughters (Gemini) has 6 Air, the other Sagg Moon (Cancer) 1.
No wonder they don’t seem to understand each other at times at all even though the Moon is the same.

How can I get my hair to do the thing like the pic? Do I have to be an air sign?
