There are naturally a lot of peeps in the fashion industry just looking to blame the Global Financial Cock-Up for their ills BUT some say that it’s fashion itself which got too whacked out of proportion…ie; not just pricie but poor value for $$$, not just trends shifting seasonally but insulting merde being served up to an apparently gullible group of buyers happy to look ridiculous just to be in fashion.
Pluto in Saggo from the mid-90s totally manifested as a rise in fabulous sportswear and designer jeans that one could wear anyplace…a definite decrease in formality & more Saggability a la the idea that a fit person can wear more or less anything and look fine. No need for fancy tailoring. And that if you’re active, you don’t need/want to be constrained.
But as Pluto heads into Capricorn & capitalism (apparently) reinvents itself, is fashion kaput? Which fashion trend totally sucked and were you personally reviled by? Is there any fashion trend that actually feels holistic & that you bond with? I’m drawn to the idea of non-leather shoes (eg; Stella McCartney) but i’m very Aqua like that. Leather feels old & had it to me now.
And, trend forecasters, what will Pluto in Cap do to fashion? There is, obviously, already a massive increase in the people doing and fascinated by craft. ie; d.i.y.

stella mcCartney did these totally wonderful wooden carved sandals and clogs a few summers ago, they were totally gorgeous, i love her vegan shoes as well, shes so sool on all that.
what i cant stand at the moment is this punky goth revival thing that people like pixie geldof are all about and specifically i hate the shoes, these big kind of renewed doc martins with high heels on them just look so totally ugly, theyre vile, and la nouvelle quiff thing, i love rockabilly but there was an 80s quiff thing i hate, and im really not at all, and i said it here already totally not getting the agneyss dean whatever thing, i cant abide her look.
more positively, i completely adore gareth pugh, christopher kane, chloe, all kinds of odd and wonderful objects being made that look new, original and integral. those inflatable things GP does. amazing. all these ninny girls traipsing around sort of “quoting” the past/ no. totally zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
people are just going to make more and more stuff themselves. its going to be like ww2 when women made turbans to hide greasy hair and heels from cork. its going to be so inventive, im so up for it.

Well I’ve always had a thing for the buxom corseted bordello look which I know has not particularly been in fashion for over a hundred years and is probably very Crab of me to find appealing. But apparently I was a hooker in a past life, or so I was told by one of those past life readers – in Russia or Siberia or someplace. A hooker assassin! Cool! One wonders how being buxomly corseted could work when freezing one’s tits off and trying to assassinate people but that’s probably where vodka comes in ….
Anyhoo … fashion. I used to study fashion design and made all these intricately beaded/embroidered velvet and brocade jackets with big flared collars and ornate buttons in a similar style to, well stuff from over a hundred years ago – y’know cinched waist, wide at the shoulder either in a cropped or frockcoat style. I also raided op shops for any type of 60s paisley garmet which I then would restyle into princess line mini dresses that looked straight out of the 60s mod era (weird I know – remaking 60s from the 60s). I once found this incredibly ugly flared houndstooth suit which I converted into a cropped jacket, mini skirt and pill box hat which I would wear with doc marten boots.
So! I’m all au fait with DIY and definitely like a bit of retro. Like right now my favourite dress is a shift mini from Emily the Strange which has this pattern that looks like paisely but is actually made up of skulls. One can’t tell whether I’m a goth hippy or a deranged princess.
ERMM … Pluto in Cap. Natural materials with a small eco footprint will be huge. Maybe a cross between Amish and the Monicans from Aeon Flux??

Early eighties drop-waisted dresses…in fact I think they had resurgance recently. Yuck.
I agree with Prowincat though…love a bit of retro paisley, seventies rock star look…blazers, the odd open-necked frilly shirt, good jeans and boots.
Pluto in Cap trend…this is not particularly fore-sighted, but a severe, monochromatic trend with a harkening to the Twiggy geometric look. Straight lines and limited use of material.
-
hey PG I hear ya re the skinny look since Twiggy is a very Cap thing, however for some reason that I can’t quite nail down my vibe is a resurgence of the hour glass figure – tits and bums, the earth mother look … not fat, just earthy … maybe even a bit of (shock horror) meat on the thigh! Toned obviously from all the DIY eco veggie gardening.

I hated the metallic satin 3/4 cargo pants from a few years ago. They were gross. So many chickies were getting around in them with really high heels for nights out and they were just trashy yuck.
-
Low-rise pants, the kind that barely cover the pubes. No one no matter how skinny looks good in those. i am so happy that trend is pretty much over.
Shirts that look like maternity wear or with those huge swathes of fabric attached to them so they look like you are wearing labia.
The return of fluorescent clothing. In tiny amounts can look good. In large amounts…yeah….retinal damage.
The general trend of the fashion silhouette to go from a relatively skinny but normal female proportion (small waist, bigger hip ala 80’s) to pants that are for a fat stomach with tiny hip/rear and thighs.
I’d like vegan shoes more if they didn’t make feet stinky. They don’t seem to breathe well.

My pet peeve is fashion mags. The editors have gone more and more artsy till one can no longer actually see the style or shape of the garment and precious little of the colour. Is this because they can see no beauty in the garments they’re pushing so they wax creative?
If pluto in cap is bringing in cap style it’ll be just that, Style! Caps don’t like fussing with what they wear. It’s off the rack, on the back and hit the track and they can go from gardening grunge to garden party in 20minutes complete with full warpaint. When they see a garment they fancy, they’ll have mentally accessorized it with at least 15 different looks from what they have at home and if it doesn’t fit with anything they simply don’t buy it. Their minds cross reference like a computer. They know exactly what suits them and what doesn’t and don’t kid themselves about their figure shape. Peeps like to try to pretend they know what is cap style but we don’t have a set style. It’s an instant see and like mental process with add ons that we know will suit us as an individual. That’s why we mostly look great, says she with smug self confidence.
-
I hate wafty ‘ethereal’ outfits – they only suit the stick thin. Strappy numbers are awful, as I have been blessed with a ‘proper’ bosom, which requires ‘proper’ support. Maxi dresses? Ew – I look pregnant, mini dresses, are only for the very young, and the very skinny, and often look awful then as well…
What I do like, and see continuing – tailored clothes, individuation through fabric, and accessories, clothes that suit your shape and personality – or personalities….. -
Capricorn rules the skeleton, business…so
Structured clothing is back, The Blazer a true corporate item is back, but think tight and push the sleeves up.
Conversely I see a return of the avant garde 80s japanese designer look. Structure is creative, hidden, but powerful & it’s for all ages…Capricorn is a sign that ages well, they actually start looking younger the older they get.
Where does Orange fit in ? there’s a bit return to this colour, solid in winter and soft and coral in summer.
Shoes are again more business like, the lace ups, the brogues, but I love the dance element, the jazz shoes, the two-tone.
thoughts?
-
I can relate ballet dancers to Capricorn. The dedication and long hours of slog required to reach the dignified high art form of the ballet. And Saturn is still in Virgo – compatible earthy element.
-
I’m with you on Cap in Pluto bringing a return of structure & tailoring. With any luck, quality will make a comeback too. I’m thinking retro 40s, 50s inspired.
Japanese clothiers are genius.

I am a bit sick of that shredded look but mostly as it makes ME feel poor and then i realise that is an “old” attitude so i feel uncool and then that lowers my spirits.
Having said that i fantasise about me in black leather trousers, a white shredded designer top thing with slinky flouro singlet beneath and snakeskin stilettos.
I don’t like gingham shirts and maxi dresses only work at or near the beach. Pluto in Capricorn is going to be a return to craft. If the quality of so many clothes keeps on getting crappier than it is going to occur to more people: How hard could it be to sew this shit ourselves?
My personal thing would be to make lingerie – why is there not a lingerie making kit? It is insanely overpriced.
I say bring back Sewing and Cooking to schools.-
I like sewing my own clothes but sometimes it is hard. Lingerie is over priced but it is difficult to make it look good AND feel good. Peeps pay top dollar for it. Panties are hard to screwup but bras can be an engineering feat for D cup and above!
-
-
Any fashion that requires I paint my face yellow definitely sucks.
Add to that playsuits, jumpsuits, boilersuits, bodysuits, bubble skirts, muffin top jeans/minis and cleavage that opens to the navel. i.e. anything Paris Hilton would wear.
-
Fashion irk? Definitely the gladiator sandal which is littering the LA landscape as we speak.
I love the idea of maxi dresses but its now way overused, and used to hide too many ills… is that a maxi dress or are you pregnant? Some women look absolutely elegant in them but I must say it always makes me feel as if it is the 70’s, and we should all be hanging out in some furry den somewhere passing joints to each other.
Aside from that all I want to say about fashion is that it needs to enhance vs detract. Honestly, do women think men UNDERSTAND the gladiator sandal??
And lastly, the wide belt trend had le Scorp moaning about it for ages, I have never heard a man complain so much about a waist cincher, “it just doesn’t work” he would groan..like it affected his very existence or something.
-
Yes Angel, the gladiator sandal – what were they thinking. That was everywhere last summer here in oz, don’t tell me it’s back next summer, I thought you in LA were always the frontrunners in fashion. Don’t tell me it’s back again for another season here. The number of times I felt the urge to whisper in some young or not-so-young one’s ear! They destroy the ankle/leg. My 11 year old thinks they look ridiculous, we crack up with mutual eye contact on spying them, family in joke. Agree too with the wide belt although the really tall long waisted chicks can get away with it with dignity.
-
Actually i meant the tall slender long waisted gals can get away with the wide belt but worn on the hips rather than the waist cincher.
-
With you on the wide belts – as I have no waist I do not like wearing them! Maxi dresses don’t suit either as I am “mini”.
I’m pretty easy on trends as there’s always someone who suits them. Usually as you say tall slender gals or alternatively the generously bosomed. If I don’t like it there’ll always be someone who will. Unfortunately the people who wear the trend often are those who definitely don’t suit it… shop assistants should stage an intervention more often. “Hold it there madam! You are about to commit a crime against fashion!”
-
-
FF sweetheart, frontrunners = fashion victims at times.
The fekking things are still about town, of course, being made of leather and metal fastenings they are practically indestructible so it MUST be worn to justify the $300 investment. It does make me want to unleash a lion..just to see what would happen.
And tati, I’m 5′1″ so the maxi dress is like a christening dress on me… I look like peewee without the bonnet.
-
Christening dress … HAHA…. can so relate!
I’m same height FA – 5?1?. I need to wear fitted clothes otherwise i look ridiculous.
I can’t stand how the majority of tops and pretty blouses look like maternity wear and require a belt for any shape and belts just don’t suit me. Shopping is a nightmare.
Jeans and t-shirts for me. But can’t even find a decent t-shirt these days – they make them too long. To be worn over leggings i suppose. Leggings… yuk. Can’t stand gladiator sandals either. There’s so much more that irks me but it’s late and i have a plane to catch tomorrow – short trip to Noosa.
-
Why did i imagine you tallish ? have a great time in Noosa you lucky thing…say hello to Tea tree Bay for me x
-
Will do David! Saw a koala on my walk along the coast yesterday – really cool to see the lovely creature in it’s natural habitat. Then late in the afternoon when i was studying a map of Noosa I burst into tears for no reason. It was like a tidal wave.
I was actually looking at a little ad for Eumundi markets, so if figured i must go there on Saturday – something awaits me there – an epiphany perhaps?. Feel like something big is happening. A new era? I hope so. Thank god i’m not at work, i’d be a mess. Feeling very emotional. Definitely feeling the Eclipse energy.

In the 70’s I used to go with mates from Sydney surfing, Noosa would be our last stop. There was one cafe then in Hastings St, and a phone booth. I stole the sign to the beach once and still have it in my parents garage..so naughty. Wonder what it is about the area that made you so emotional ?
I got chased by a shark off Ti tree bay, my only close encounter, got saved by a pilot whale, who ended up dead on the beach, its a special story , I’ll have to tell you about it one day over coffee x have a great day at the markets. -
Hi David, I don’t think my emotional outburst had anything to do with Noosa, could have been any place really. I’ve been taking some homeopathic potion (guinea pig for a friend who’s studying), it could have been that or just the pains of transformation. Feels like I’m shedding skin or as a medium told me a few months ago – i’m a caterpiller about to turn into a butterfly. Now that I think about it, I have cocooned myself from the world the last year or so. It’ll be interesting to see how I feel when I get home. My moon’s in Sagg, so I love travelling and always have a great time. There’s always a first for everything I suppose. Would love to hear about your close encounter special story one day over coffee next time you’re in my hood. Noosa would have been much better in the 70’s I reckon. It’s like Double Bay on the water now and all those McMansions – eeeuuw!! Give me a straw hut any day!!
Wow so much processing to do re this short trip but it’s what Scorps do best. Watched the sunset at Tea Tree bay today
-
Ok scorpalicious, got the message. I’ve spent so many holidays at Noosa, feels so familiar but with you on the trendification of the place. Yet fo much beauty still there. Thanks to the low rise council policy I guess and the national park is still there in all its glory. I love the Eumundi markets, Sunshine Beach beach and its’ restaurants and the coastal national park walk including all the beaches. Love snorkling off Tea Tree and exploring the Fairy Pools. Devils Gate gives me the creeps but have to see it everytime we’re up there. Also, the wildlife, yes have seen the koalas, goannas, and in summer always snakes. Also have done the night wildlife tours where you get to see wombats, possums, owls and other stuff. Have watched porpoises playing off the coast there many times. Never seen a whale though. Special place. But I get that if you are going through something tidal there’s no place like home. xx
-
I’ve got the best of both worlds…one of my daughters lives at Noosa and another lived At Eumundi for a few years

Jumpsuits and playsuits must die. Anything suffixed by “-suit” unless the first word is “swim.”

agreed.
