“I don’t believe in astrology. I’m a Sagittarius and we’re skeptical.” Arthur C Clarke.
I never get bored but an emotion close to it, i think, infuses me whenever I am faced with an old-school sceptic. It’s not that they haven’t the right to think/believe w.t.f. THEY want but they so often seem determined, smug & pass-agg-insistent on dialogue with me. My fave retaliation is the George Santayana quote that “skepticism is the chastity of the intellect” but rather than responding to that, they just sort of dirge on. I think it’s actually Taurus (men, soz) who are the most pompous about it. Aquarius too – they’re either super-logical & will cheerily crap on with all sorts of spurious shit or else they’ll try to out-weird one with a harmony-0f-the-spheres rant.
But just as I was about to launch forward on a dissing the disbelievers rant, i thought isn’t it fabulous that many of us live in a time when we can express all these things & share them openly? And how much would many of our ancestors (especially those who lived in darker times) would have ADORED modern freedom of speech, being able to bung up charts on the internet, sharing stories about Mugwort on one’s blog…And i felt amazingly grateful that it’s just the occasional dullard grumbling…”Surely, you cannot possibly believe in xyz…”
The weird thing is that I DON’T know how astrology works. And yes, I have read Cosmos & Psyche.
I just know that it DOES work and it seems to work better the more you do it. It works backwards, it works forwards, it works shallow (when Mars is on your Venus, you will meet hot guys sorta thing) and it works deep…a la Jungian astro et al. Or a Pluto transit. So if it works and it does, then how weird & intricate & MAGIC is our world? Our universe?
And it is all around us, so yes I believe in magic and then i get onto the Dark Matter situation. 90% of our universe is made up of this mysterious substance and scientists have no idea what it is. It sounds so satisfyingly witchy. I went through a stage a few years ago (when Neptune was on my Ascendent by transit) when I became obsessed with Dark Matter. Now I’ve calmed down but if I have had a few drinks & a skeptic is annoying me, i can download all my Dark Matter info (blended ad lib with some alchemy, surrealism, Ancient mythology and obviously astrology) into one Mercury-in-Aries rant enough to scare off any Skeptic.

Just wanted to get back to this stream and say that I hadn’t noticed it was about Sagg’s so sorta take back the flippant remarks..
Thought Mystic meant in general to all the dumb squats out there…
BFF since 5 yrs. a Sagg….Was her maid of honor at her Catholic wedding. Don’t know how she feels about esoteric stuff as we never went real deep. My esoteric bff was an Aq….but my 9th house Aq…..

Oh Yes, Richard Tarnas’s book COSMOS & PSYCHE. I heard him lecture/read at a local Seattle bookstore and although he is so
handsome and soft-spoken and brilliant I found it impossible to
truly comprehend him or the tome which I bought before the
lecture; know he’s a Pisces. Maybe he’s “too deep” for me. lol -
I never defend or evangelise astro, just give the skeptic my best drop dead look and move away. For years I tried but now prefer to keep my mystique. With all my Neptune stuff, I can do deep and mysterious effortlessly. Neptune is my most elevated planet in 10th and has aspects to Sun, Moon, Merc, Venus, Mars, Ceres, Asc, Pallas, Pluto, Uranus PF and Psyche.
-
maybe one way to convert them is to look at their chart and TELL THEM STUFF (based on chart) that you wouldn’t otherwise know. e.g. nice/fugly transits?
-
yep… that’s how i got into astrology on a deeper level – i met an astrologist at a party. He opened up his ephemeris (he carried it all times!) and proceeded to tell me stuff i couldn’t believe anyone could glean by looking at symbols in a book. We became really good friends but sadly he passed away several years later. I wonder how many peeps he converted with his party trick.

Reminds me of the German who cut loose on me one night about how sub-standard Australian Education is, and how he thinks its because our university courses are too short, and that in Germany (or europe – forget which) the fact they have to study for so many years makes them a much more intelligent and trust worthy group of educated people.
The fact he was a university drop out seemed irrelevent…
And then he patted me on the shoulder and told me he thought I was a nice person…
I wonder what his star sign is? It was a marvellously arrogant rant…-
one of my besties is married to a cherman and he thinks australia is totally barbaric, especially re intellectual pursuits. it’s always causing them probs cos he won’t live here and her soul dies in germany. many germans seem to think this way – australia good for a swim and some wildlife but the intellectual/ cultural side of life is a joke. i’m not so sure it’s astrological – more like cultural! they could be right. i remember berlin being totally fab on that level. pity about the fuqing weather.
-
all that rain/snow/shite weather, they have to stay inside and think instead. we just run around shooting stuff, throwing balls and saying g’day to the neighbours. thinking is for elitist highbrow snob latte sipping wannabes. just ask any local where i live…
-
At least the germans seem to think. I sometimes think my fellow english peeps just vegetate indoors, or do dire things in the name of interior decorating, or heat up ready meals in the microwave after too much exertion watching cookery programmes and buying cookery books they never read … Btw, a few years ago the average number of books in a uk household was …… 4. I look at the hundreds in mine and friends houses and almost cry at the implication for others.
does that make me an elitist highbrow snob??

spot on pour moi, mystic. i clearly remember a taurean male work colleague who was usually a gentle lovely soul but SOOOOO reactive (borderline aggro) about astro being a crock. i find gem men tend to diss it too.
-
I AM SOOO INSULTED! LOL “I don’t believe in astrology. I’m a Sagittarius and we’re skeptical” Saggo’s are the opposite of skeptical
funny quote though i think it expresses the saggo humour!
lol
Matt
Saggo astrologer in training-
Ah but Matt, remember you are more highly evolved, I think as humans evolve; it’s the outer planet connections to your inner planets that are the key. I don’t know your chart, just that you are very young and your outer planets are probably double Capricorn and Sagg; please tell. Aqua’s are by definition evolved but not necessarily true (in my experience) of older Aquas, unless they have done a lot of soul searching to evolve. My ex- father-in-law believes he is such an intellectual, prides himself on it, yet his arguments against astrology indicate he knows nothing about it. I just used to smile quietly and not effuse on the subject, thinking you are soo blonde to put it mildly (and no offense to blondes, I am one and he isn’t; but it is such a useful expression to sum up dumbed down.)
-
hahahaha
your almost exactly correct (and tell me if i understand you correctly) yes Neptune and Uranus are placed in my Cap-(within 2 degrees of eachother btw) Pluto is in Sagg as well as Jupiter but Time traveling Saturn is in my accendant, Picses.
my grandmother is a aqua and she’s always the sholder to cry on – i think she must have a cancer accen, but yes she is very insightful.
Matt-
Pluto and Jupiter in Sagg! AND Sun etc – I am sooo jealous. You couldn’t be a non-believer if you tried : )
-
ahahahah
thanks
— ive also got sun moon and merc in sagg

For shizzle…the most sceptical non believers I’ve ever met are Aries, both sexes. I even freaked out a glorious talk dark and dashing Aries once when he dissed me, while breezing me in a cafe, for reading my horoscopes in the paper, his face fell when I said “you’re just saying that coz you’re an Aries”. They are so easy to pic.
-
lol hahahah
both my parents are aries — one believes the other no way in hell!
i think that a leo would be the most saseptable to non believing???
i dontr know
matt-
No can’t agree – Leos are too up themselves – they’d love reading about themselves being grandious etc.
-
hahahah
true true true

I’m surrounded by sceptics – and yes, Aries Suns are the worst for it!! They always think it’s cold reading and/or that doesn’t fit them, haha, and display perfect Arian arrogance in their belief in the purely rational!
And I’d like to say your Oracle is a perfect example of something that works & I don’t know HOW or WHY. It never fails to tell me the truth of how I feel about a situation at that moment in time. Honestly. I only wish I didn’t pretend that I don’t know my own feelings, but that’s another issue!
-
Wot’s this about aries astro non-believers?? Every aries I know loves the stuff. It tells us we’re number 1!
-
-
Haha the biggest doubting-for-doubting’s-sake bullshitter I know is a Taurus man. Too true.
-
Just had a conversation with my Mum about baby boomers and gen Xers. I commented that there was a strong planetary overlap with the definitions (didn’t want to come on too strong as I know she is a sceptic LOL). She looked me straight in the eye, and after a VERY long pause said “Really”, in a tone I recognise so well. I simply burst out laughing.
She’s a scorp with Cap moon
-
I’d like to concur re Aquarian disbelievers.
My partner works with an Aqua guy who “doesn’t have a star sign”. End of story. Neither do his wife and children………. He’s very Aquarian, above it all n that, if you know what I mean………………
