This is not a course in astrology but i get loads of questions about this sort of thing so maybe a bit of info will be useful? You can get a chart off Astrodienst & please just get the vanilla version. I got an e-mail from someone semi-hysterical the other day. She’d worked up her chart & gone for every single extra asteroid, point and even hypothetical planets (Uranian astrology) and it was the first time she’d ever even seen her chart. The e-mail began something like “HELP ME – I ALWAYS THOUGHT I WAS A LEO BUT I HAVE PRIAPUS, HADES, VERTEX, TWO PARTS OF FORTUNE AND 14674 + my PROGRESSED MOON ALL IN VIRGO…”
Anyway, the Midheaven is the cusp of the 10th house, aka the Brilliant Career sector. You can see it at more or less the top of any chart with the words MC.This is short for “medium coeli” aka middle of the sky aka Midheaven. If you have an exact birthtime, transits to the Midheaven manifest with total resonance for your vocational reality. The sign of the Midheaven and the planets in that 10th house signify your level of fame attained – if any, your public image, professional reputation and point toward your ideal career.
So, for fun or furthering self-understanding, figure out the sign/any planets in the 10th and ponder the scenario. eg; Mars in Saggo/ Saggo Midheaven wouldn’t want to be indoors or beholden to anyone. This is someone who would go bonkers if trying to follow – say – the parental path into a profession. It just reeks of the wilderness, travelling around teaching martial arts, a politician, professional zealot, idealist, horse trainer, surfer, self-employed, wanderer…It is all, obviously, a bit more complicated than this but i.m.o. it is a good starting point. And cool to analyze. On a really shallow level, just consciously trying to ‘do’ your Midheaven sign when it comes to big career matters, seems to work really well.

Interesting – especially the transits to the Midheaven. Any thoughts on Venus retro almost conjunct my Midheaven (Aries, 0 degrees)?
I’ve been sending out pitches galore and working on my book but so far being met with a resounding emptiness of inbox.
Can’t even get a waitressing job! It’s actually funny. -
I’d love to know what others with Aries on the Midheaven – do. It’s a very impatient Midheaven to have.
-
hiya fishgirl. aries MC and venus in aries to boot here…
i’ll tell you what i do – one fulltime job but wish there was 3 of me so i could do everything…I have a long list of careers i still want, and some of the things i have to do to get them (including: international business, textiles designer, musician, outspoken campaigner for the cause of women everywhere and especialy debunking the crap myths that men love to use to dominate women. I want to work out a way to show women – everyone – that they don’t have to put up with crap and that the fundamental structure of society has been set up by people (mostly before our time) to serve their own needs, , so we must question everything. (I have friends who work in womens shelters, i don’t know if i could do that – i’d want to go and give the abusers a taste of their own medicine)
I want to be on TV and go head to head with whatever latest leader is supporting some shite sharia law, or for that matter anything in the western world too that’s rubbish. campaigning. taking things down fom the inside armed only with the cold hard facts. (idealista…)
i want to mix up my love of networking and putting people together (not matchmaking – too sticky) with creative skills, desire to work globally and free women from socio-politico-econo-crap. not to mention protection of the environment from planet rapists.see , got me going there…! I have lilith conjunct Jupiter in the 11th and mars in aqua in 8th, maybe that’s the part of me that wants to demolish those who get a kick out of wielding power unethically, for their own gain
-
How funny – I’m a feminist too but in a more subversive way. We also share mars in Aqua in the 8th. i don’t know what that means other than i can’t stand rules/restrictions and nothing makes my blood boil quicker than people who cannot think outside the square.
-
hmmm. well at the moment i’m not a feminist crusader, just doing some job in an office (can you hear the cogs grinding…squeek..visualise laminate desk…lovely…), but it’s one of the things i encounter in the wider world that i want to deal with more in my ‘next’ role (somehow). And yes…rules…well…i live by them at work at the moment and being my own boss looks more and more appealing..every second! I think it’s only the moon in cap or some other influence that keeps me sticking to the dayjob atm , plus wanting $$
I do like prowlncat’s idea of PM, but politix…that stuff’s hard, all those slippery personalities to wrangle, deals to be made…i need a wheeling-and-dealing sidekick for these things
-
ps my mention of politics to be taken with many grains of salt and hysterical laughter! nice thought tho
hee hee
-
-
-
I vote unpredictable pisces for Aussie’s first female PM
-
I second that
-
-
your description of your ideal career/role in the world couldve been taken verbatim from my lips, i feel exactly the same way about women’s issues and the need to empower people to challenge structures/ideas of what they must be. its my absolute passion, and am attempting to channel it into a viable career right now myself!! so all power to you, UP, the more of us out there the better!!
-
and for me that doesnt come from my MC (though it gives me follow through, as fishgirl suggested earlier) but my many saggi planets, aries rising and aquarius moon. fiery intellectual feminist, hell bent on the ‘crazy’ idealistic notion that there shouldnt be inequality based upon gender, etc!
-
i reckon this is the real New World Order saggigal….!
-
-
-
-
-
Ok if I’m reading this correctly, I have Pisces on the Midheaven with Sun, Mars, Saturn & Pluto in transit. Any ideas on what that could indicate I would be good at??? I’m eternally wondering what I want to be when I grow up…..as I rapidly hurtle towards 38. Eep!
-
psychologist, counsellor, private investigator, photographer
-
thanks prowlncat – kinda funny as I was just reminiscing on sunday about how badly I wanted to be a PI when I was a kid, I was way too addicted to Alfred Hitchcock & The 3 Investigators. I even typed up cards & put them in letterboxes in my street. Not ONE case came my way dammit!
-
-
artist, philosopher, human rights lawyer, poet…guru, academic, priestess…

I can understand fishgirl … but try having Aquarius there. Makes you more or less bats and subject to unpredictable bouts of erratic and eccentric behaviour that is most unsuitable in the workplace. As well as the whole “so what’s the big deal about showing up at 8.30am on the dot … like so long as I get there sometime before lunch who cares??” thing. Having zero earth in my chart doesn’t help with that whole routine business either. I’ve manifested mine workwise as a freelancer in the creative fields. At the moment I’m very, very free. Read: broke. But only since the Global Financial Crapola. Before then I always had heaps of work without any advertising or whatever.
But for your Aries (not that I’m an avid Arian watcher but I’ll give it a shot) … I’d say it’s great to have it there on your midheaven. Bolshie. Never say die. Just continue headbutting object of desire/glass ceiling/closed door until it caves in. Things will probably pick up after Venus quits retro-ing. Maybe you’re meant to review/refine something in the meantime? Clarify your vision perhaps?
-
But i decided that even this is too restrictive – so now i do all my teaching in the first semester and the other 8 months are mine to research (and with scorpio in the 6th house and my sun in the 12th it is what i love to do)
I am also an aquarius mid heaven girl – and my how i hate routine! to make things more bats I have uranus in my 6th house (AWOL on the day job, absolutely)But teaching is really good for aquarians (sharing your random truth with the masses) I teach at uni – heaps of freedom, heaps – there are three hours in any given week when I absolutely have to be somewhere but the rest of the time is up to me – a sauna in the middle of the day, a little gardening….
I lasted as a commercial lawyer for less than 3 months before the uni gig turned up – i said to universe “i can’t possible take this fascist control of my time – billing every 6 minutes! i have to get out of here”
-

Aquarius midheaven here too – and i totally agree that research / teaching in the uni environment is perfect. turn up to work at 11am? sure! turn up at 7am after a sleepless night, why not? as long as the work gets done.
i have lilith conjunct my midheaven, and though i suppose this is meant to mean difficulties in career, things have always come easy to me and i often feel i’m praised for work when i’ve barely touched it / told to work less when i’m baring working at all! saturn in my 6th is also supposed to mean struggle or hard lessons in career i think?
-
-
Thanks Prowlncat, i do say ‘die’ occasionally, but am always amazed that i start agian. And again. I have Mars in Aquarius so i TOTALLY empathise re: work routine being galling. I think that’s why i love being freelance too. BUt the brokeness is really getting to me at the moment, the recession has meant my regular clients have all reduced word rates/cut back use of freelancers completely so i have to…think of something new. I think an Aquarius Midheaven would make you so forward thinking. Do you work in TV/Internet/Marketing?
-
well yes-ish …. more like marketing, brand strategy, advertising, designer, writer sorta consultant person. Oh and I sing … to cats, but that’s just a hobby.
-
That is so Aqua MC! I’m sure you’re fantastic at it too…
-
-
-
-
fishgirl, i think aries midheaven makes you the pioneering sort! someone charting new territory, being bolshie, a leader, the boss, in charge. a career which requires action- you’d probably not be the kind to sit for hours researching, or plodding along in an office job or you’d go mad. sounds like the venus retro is halting/slowing down your efforts to move forward or be able to put your best face forward (so to speak). and maybe therefore you’ll find that things magucally start happening again when venus goes direct- as i’d imagine venus conjunct MC would be tres auspicious in winning praise, looking good professionally, being ‘attractive’ to potential employers (i dont mean attractive physically, i mean as a candidate for work) etc.
my mercury in capricorn rules my MC- suited to serious thinking and endurance study. its a wierd little aspect to have as it is counter lots of fire in my chart, but it is the only stability/security aspect i have so its a good balance!
-
Thanks Saggical! well the weird thing is that for lots of the writing i do i have to research a lot. But it galls me and i have to remind myself to pay attention. It’s the pitching i’m good at – some editors reckon i’m a better pitcher than actual puller-offerer, if that makes sense. See now your Cap MC would be a better puller-offerer than pitcher…success demands both, hey?
-
other than my ranting above f’girl, i do want to wish you the best of luck. echoing TA above somewhere, the Arts Council of Aust has a swatch of literature grants and more that you might slot right into (?)…i was inspired by prev comments and looked it up…

-
lol prowincat, we posted at the same time and even used the same word- bolshie- in our responses! apt seeing i learned that word from mystic..
-
yeah I pinch heaps of mystic’s vernacular! I haven’t used “grok” yet … must assimilate.
-
-
Pisces here with Gemini MC; I tend to get along well with geminis, perhaps this helps? Curious though — I have NO planets anywhere near here (all below the horizon) except for Chiron in Taurus. Can’t remember what Chiron’s about. I’m a little sympathetic towards it now, as far as celestial bodies go, seeing as he was the only one “awake” in the sky when I was born
-
i’m gemini mc too and it shows. i’m a writer, academic research nut, kind of doing a form of anthropology — i love doing fieldwork cuz i get to interview people and get them to tell me random stories. but then i also have mars in gemini.
-
-
Coupled with the series of realisations that I’ve been tripping over today…this is very timely stuff indeed Mystic. Thanks.
-
so my MC is aries , sun aries in the 10th ? is that possible
-
midheaven is a much better name than Medium Coeli, which sounds like a bowel complaint..
-
Sounds like a small creature/virus strain that lives in your bowl and CAUSES the complaint.
-
davidl – the spookiness continues … I too am Aries sun sign, with Aries MC. Cancer Rising and Libran Moon (just to make sure I have a heart I suppose!!!!)
-
Together we could run the world ! maybe even the galaxy! muhahahahahahahhahahahhahah !

TA – this is a reply to you from yr message higher up the page – for some reason there is no reply to some of the messages, is it just me getting that!??! Have been wanting to reply to some messages but it all gets out of sync……..anyway – no kids. Alas I’m just a doting Zia. Will check out your website now
Oh & David – COMPLETELY off topic but I dreamt of you last night. I was in a room of random people & you were there. You specifically sought me out to tell me there was a spell I could do with holy water, to regain a memory. I was about to ask how it was done then stopped & gave you a piercing look & did a bit of a Larry David/Curb your Enthusiasm eyeballing & asked HOW you knew I needed it??
-
Just saw your message Lexi, very interesting, this is not the first time I have been noted in the dream state of others in a similar way. I do have a very busy time at night, often wake up after extreme escapades. I will though meditate on your dream and see if any info comes up. Friends ring me from all over the world to tell me about what I was getting up to in their dreams. Maybe its that secretive moon in my 12th that for some reason has been giving me a busier dream than waking life over the last 10 or so years ?
-
I’ve been having that busy night time state for a while now too……alas wish it was a different type of um….busy night time activity!
Let me know if you come up with anything. I remember being puzzled that it involved holy water, especially because I don’t particularly believe that there is any significance in holy water, even with my catholic school girl upbringing

Taurus with Cancer mid heaven. Am I ever going to leave the house? Hmmm off to do some research on this one… Intrigued.
-
Oh cute, research shows creativity shows up for this midheaven as a steady rhythm in their work.I am meant to be a photographer, yippeeee!
Research also showed they have a conscious relationship to food. Ahem. Putting down the chocolate…
-
ok- I just thought Cancer energy= nurturing.
I’m sorry about your strange mouse that bites.
He can’t be caught or tamed?
Or reasoned with?
Mice can be such little devils and also are little sweethearts too. So soft and sweet. Good luck with him he sounds bold!

-
venus in cap midheaven(does it matter if its in the 9th?, nothing in the 10th!), funny i always thought my jupiter in gemeni rising was the career hit, i was in the film biz and all manner of creative stuff, but came late to motherhood~ (and stability), or perhaps (hmmm a bit rusty on all the astro stuff) my career is more to do with beauty?
-
OK I have Pluto and Uranus in the 10th house ( I may even achieve eminence. wtf?)
Midheaven in Virgo (17 degrees) and Mars Trine Midheaven.
Can anyone help? I’m lost.
-
Hmm. Nothing at all in my 10th house (or my 7th, 8th, 9th for that matter – looks very unbalanced with half the chart nearly empty). Am I doomed to obscurity?
-
Everyone has a MC. Look on astrodienst UT. The chart below the first chart on ‘personal portrait’. It will list your MC.
-
Midheaven is in Pisces and I’ve got the whole of Aries in my 10th house; what I meant was that I haven’t got any planets in my 7th, 8th, 9th or 10th. I work in the building industry so the aries is appropriate I gues.
-
-
-
Eek! My MC is in Scorpio! What does that mean? I know nothing about Scorpio. Isn’t it the dark and sexy sign? I’m not very dark and sexy at all.
-
Scorps – depth seekers in whatever you fancy, depends on where your Pluto and Mars are placed and sun etc. However, Scorp MC research, depth psych, detective, medium Plus many more that other more informed individs can tell u. If Leo in 7th maybe marriage counsellor??!! no expert.
-
Thanks fluid feline.
I’m a social researcher maybe I’m not that far off and it’s my place of work and not my occupation that has me a bit restless. Pluto is in Libra and Mars, Mercury and Sun in Aquarius.
This whole Scorpio thing has me a little freaked. I only found out I have a fair chunk of German ancestry last month and now this!
-
oh c’mon Leo Water Carrier, you’ll be okay. Just take the good aspects of Scorps – the power, passion and strength. Scorp MC is PERFECT for researching – depth and insight

My careers have been Hair Stylist, Beautician, Model, Personal Stylist in Boutiques,
Silver service hospitality, Band Manager & Music Promoter, Artist, Hostess,
Smuggler, Madam, Holistic Bodyworker & Tantriki……now i’m tired:)
Attention Deficit Disorder or just a Sagg? Pluto in Sagg sure had me dedicated
to one thing.
Anyways it took courage to do some of the things i wished i had not.
Just back from Beach hols with my divine best friends, AquaMan & CowGirl. Post holly blues.
And really don’t feel like working, hope the creative urge develops soon.
Libra in Mid heaven……………………..why is THAT no surprise!
Easter always fazes me a bit.-
hey Peg, I have Libra MC too!! Sun and Neptune in 10th house. I have only ever had ONE creative title/position in my 24 year career!!! only the responsibilities and company names changed. Back in the 80’s i hardly believed i was actually getting paid to do what i loved. The only time i didn’t enjoy my job was 2 years ago when working for a more corporate company – 6 years of blood, sweat and tears and a near nervous breakdown but the contacts have been invaluable. Saturn really does reward.
Freelancing now and life is wonderful again… I have my freedom.you were a Smuggler?
-

-
pegasus if I assimilate any more cosmic stuff I fear I might turn into a Borg. Actually … those Borg skintight black suits are kinda sexy … and the eye piece always did it for me … hmmm

Can anyone enlighten me – Saggo MC, Jupiter in Taurus in 3rd, Leo sun in 6th??? Have burnt bridges throughout pluto transit thru Sagg but thankfully; jobs were torturous. Hate working 9-5 and love to work with passion. Am still bringing up two kids 9 and 11 so don’t want a consuming 8 – 5 job at present. Am capable of hard work – leo in 6th – have great work history and academic record. But so need flexibility, perhaps uranus transiting my asc opp natal uranus/pluto/mercury in virgo has led to my fuq it attitude?? Any insights career wise welcome. xx
-
hey mystic, i know this is not an astrology course but i absolutely love it when you go on these tangents, one can learn huuuuugely, though it’s mostly still a fog of incomprehension for me …… patience grasshopper!
i’d love to know what you know, LOL!
also the fascinating/instructive blogs from everyone, yea! i do miss cheshire cap though!
as far as i can see my MC is pisces but no planets, what should i be doing??
-
-
Virgo Sun- Scorpio Rising and Leo MC.
I don’t feel very Leo. Except I like to sing and perform, otherwise I don’t feel I possess Lion like qualities. Maybe that’s enough?
It is my only Leo sign and it’s on the 10th House Cusp.
There’s also my Virgo Mars in my 10th House.
Ultimately, I am self motivated and work best alone.
I have paid my dues in retail and tried to be chipper and joyful and sometimes I really was but I really wanted to be alone reading, studying or writing (music, poems or short stories).
I wish I had studied my chart earlier in life!
It makes so much sense now.these posts/blogs are enlightening and extremely fascinating to me.
thanks to all!
xoxo-
scorpion_tongue, that’s me too! Virgo Sun, Scorp Asc so yes, Leo MC!

I have Venus in Leo too, just, at 0 36, so not actually conjunct the MC.
I still wonder if it means smth along the line of public…public career? Visible? Vibrance in public? As you can see I have no clue.
But ought to really, gotta be useful, right?
Love reading people’s replies, sometimes I jot things down. Forever learning.-
oh wow!
I like to work 50% or more behind the scenes in writing, painting, writing music or playing amateur detective and then for brief spurts of time be public about promoting my art, music.
I pushed myself hard to be on on- cheerful public person and I was miserable.
It took me until now to fully realize that I need to work alone or be a leader of a small group and/or run my own business.
I wish I had followed astrology when I was younger and I think I could have avoided following dead-end jobs.
Do you like to work in the public or do work that helps society?
I think it can go either way.

sorry Pegasus … I’m a bit of a sci fi nut and it was a bit of a trekky (Star Trek) injoke. Borgs are a collective of emotionless, cybernetic beings that roam the galaxy assimilating civilisations in their pursuit of perfection. Their favourite line is “prepare to be assimilated”, and “resistance is futile”…. hehehe
Living long and prosper *makes the sign*
-
-
they share a brain..or a mind. no thinking for themselves. there’s like a central think-machine…is that right?
-
a Queen … but yes the “assimilation” process removes individuation

Gemini MC no other planets there, mercury in aries in the eight, sun in taurus in the 9th, jupiter conjunct neptune in the third, under a scorp cusp.
Lawyer, till a few years ago, before i came across with astrology (NN aquarius, venus opp aquarius, lots of aqua really…) i used to lve the law and politics, then i started to be a speach writer to some politics, then i found the enourmous pleasure that i had in writting (in my language believe me i can write much better…).
Then felt in love with astrology and know it seems that i lost my interest in the law at the same time i found this passion with astrololy.
I’m doind my best to fake that i still enjoy being a lawyer, but the fact is that i dont anymore.
I’ve read somewhere that no planets in the MC plus gemini MC kind of “doom ” you in profissional realms, because of so much energy being scattered…plus my mercury in aries in the eight is stationary direct, so i guess it makes the whole seaching, investigating process a little bit more soul consuming.
On a positive note i think it gives you the stamina for learning almost everything you want all by yourself, and that can give you pleasure and some sense of power, though it seems lately not money!-
We’re almost twins Virgo Rising. Same but with Jupiter square neptune in scorp, and mercury just about direct. I fell out of love with my first career after less than 10 years in practice. Was actually doing more hours on voluntary work, as well as renovating my house and pursuing an active social life. As you say, scattered energies. Never been able to be single minded about anything.
Now work part time because I cannot cope with the stress of full time work and the limitations it places on all my other activities. Resigned myself to the fact that I will never have any money – live from hand to mouth on freelance work (and the occasional parental hand out!)
Stamina and doing things by yourself rings true. Teachers always complain that I will not take their word for something – have to find it out for myself. I like to think of myself as a renaissance woman – degrees in four completely different subjects. Only the first was undertaken for work, the rest have been to pursue an interest.
Soul consuming – I like that. I get far too involved in work and research. Each new project takes away a little part of my soul when I let it go. Conversely, I’m often accused of being too self contained. But I never get lonely or bored – there is always so much to learn about myself, others around me, new topics, the world, all the places I haven’t been …..
-
-
Leo MC wth no planets, Mars, Venus, Merc in first, Sagg asc., Sun & Lilith in 12th with Neptune, Moon in cap in 2nd, Saturn in aqua in 4th. Wotta time of it I’ve had…
-
Oh yeh and I married young, raised 5 sons, walked outta the whole deal at 42 and now at 45 goin to uni and have a life of my very own.
-
Capricorn mc….. Its all about the slog? Which is ironic seeing as since I was made redundant I haven’t worked…. into week 4 now…. Really want to go back to the 9-5. I love the 9-5, I love the structure it brings, the order I create (Jupiter, Saturn, Mean Node, True Node all in virgo). BUT I do want to work somewhere where my role/actions/job makes a difference and i can contribute to society in a benific way….. sigh
-
Ok I’m a bit late to the party, but MC and 10th house have always intrigued me: my combo is Scorp MC, then (deep breath…) Sun, Mars, Mercury, Neptune (each conjunct to the one preceding) ALL in 10th house in Sagg!! Plus Moon in Sagg right next door in 11th house (conjunct to Neptune). It’s a planetary congo line, they’re all squeezed in together. Am I a freak? What does this mean?
