Lilith, 1892, by John Collier
Venus squares Pluto this Friday, but building now – already a perfectly sexy & heated troublesome little power-trippy sexual politiking of an aspect, no? But it’s complicated by Dark Moon Lilith also being conjunct Pluto this week. The mythological Lilith was demonised (literally) by the Christians. Yonks ago she was a Babylonian Snake Goddess & then she winds up as Adam’s First Wife & then the Snake in the Garden of Eden. Etc.
The astrological Lilith is interpreted differently by various peeps. I love this quote – in Astrodienst’s Astro-Wiki – from a Kocku Von Struckard:
” Lilith embodies the presence of an archaic form of feminine strength that ignores any patriarchal discourse of power and dominance and allies itself with those forces that affirm life itself.”
People used to say Lilith in your chart was where you were a difficult ‘bitch’ who had probs aligning herself to societal standards. Others say it’s where you’re fabulous & wild, women running with the wolves et al. I have phases where I track & analyze Lilith a lot. Usually when I’m on a Wiccan sort of a jag. I do think Lilith is fascinating in synastry: If your Lilith is strongly placed on someone’s Moon/Venus, he/she projects an awful lot onto you. You could look at a man (heterosexual) and his Moon-Venus-Lilith placements & be able to neatly delineate any Madonna-Whore complexes. Maybe not over dinner out or even to his face.
Anyway, with Lilith/Pluto being squared by Venus this week, there is a lot of sexual power undertow to all relationships. Covert or not. And feminine anger too. I mean, Venus is in Aries…remember.

fascinating! i just looked up my chart and i have Lilith in Gemini. any ideas as to what this means/how this plays out? that i have 2 sides to my powerful feminine goddess-ness?
-
Same here Saggigal, I just looked up mine, it’s 14 degrees Gem.
That’s it’s mercurial? 2 sides, like saggigal asked? Witty?-
love your gravatar!! very mercurial indeed.

-
Lilith is fascinating Mystic, and mine is strongly placed, conjunct my moon and north node in late Aries (trine Asc and Sun, mercury blah blah)
Haven’t worked it all out yet, but it’s certainly a two edged sword. The bitch on one side and potent goddess on the other. I often get the feeling men regard me as kryptonite, especially the not so super ones. They tend to wig out around me. It’s like I project their feebleness back to them. But I don’t set out to emasculate them, honest.
I like Von Struckow’s take. The mysterious female, the yin of the Tao Te Ching has a way of enfeebling power built on yang posturing and brute force. Makes it look ridiculous.
By the way, I had to catch a green snake in my mother’s house a couple of weeks ago. Okay it was little, but not bad for someone scared of snakes. Perhaps my Lilith is growing in strength.
-
what did you do with it? please please I beseech you indulge my fascination and enrich my vision by supplying deets re colour and texture – I have never been near a snake and I cannot imagine having to catch one. I am well impressed uber v
-
Hi orangeblossom,
It was quite sweet really. Greenish black and velvety texture. It had gotten into a corner and I knew if I didn’t pick it up, it would just disappear behind furniture etc and we’d have a hell of time finding it. It tried to make a dive past me and I had to dive on it like a socceroo goalie with a towel and grab it quick by the back of the head. By then my elderly mother had almost wet herself. It wrapped itself around my forearm, and to avoid the dog had to take it to front veranda and drop it into the garden, where it took off at lightning speed, frightened out of its poor little wits.
If it had been bigger and a different colour, I would have closed the door to the room and called the snake dude who charges $150 or something. Funnily, mother has lived in that house for 43 years and the only other time was when the cat brought one in.
I’ve always wanted to get over my fear of snakes. As they say, phobias are usually projections of more generalized fears. One of these days I’ll go to a zoo where you can pet those humongous pythons. Maybe I’ll take my clothes off and have a photo taken with one a la John Collier above.
AND apparently there’s a bronze sculpture of Lilith in the Blue Mountains. Christine Broadbent told me. She has owl’s feet.
-
Velvety you say… it sounds beautiful I wonder if it was the heat that brought it inside – maybe its usual prey has hightailed it outta there. I hope your mum’s ok – we have to look after them – I am also the wild animal chaser and burier of the dead in my family. I’ve found it makes you face things you wouldn’t normally face if the ones you love are more scared than you are.
-
That’s what I figured with Mum. She’s not as tough as she likes to think. I had to get over my fear quick smart as her anxiety was beginning to peak.
BTW, found this about Lilith, searching for statuary images: http://www.womanwisdom.com/store/statuary.html
In the oldest mythologies she is a Goddess and in later stories she is demonized. Lilith is a motherless form of the divine feminine even known to some as the wife of Yahweh. As the embodiment of the neglected, outcast and rejected aspects of the Great Goddess she calls women to rise up in strength to reclaim their own divinity.

am diving into it now, though cant see any major aspect between my partner’s lilith and my chart (phew?). but lilith is in opposition to my sun and venus in mine! im trying to figure this out archetypally: that my im sometimes torn between my outward self, loving self and my bitched up empowered self?
will continue my exploration!
-
O saggigal I have her there too – smack bang on my ascendant – prob why I have no issues with the young woman who wants to sell her virginity and I do have them with the woman who pumps out the babies
) I read some stuff a few weeks ago – independent in your thought processes – ability to rationalise anything you put your tricky labyrinth of a mind to – and way of life. Work in PR, Words or Comms is favoured. You will have an X factor to do with the way you use words – something suitors won’t be able to put their finger on but is deeply attractive to them – it will be something to do with your turn of phrase or way of communicating they velcro onto. If you think back over past relationships as I have done over last few weeks since hearing abut her in my chart these themes will prob emerge.
-
Thanks for that orangeblossom, glad you posted this! It actually makes sense, as I’ve been told this, re: the way I use words or even simply come across in typed form.
My Gemini Lilith in 7th house is trine Pluto in the chart, so Mystic said Lilith is rather Plutonic, so this makes it even more? It’s opposite Neptune. Hm…will have to delve deeper into this now!
-
crikey (invoking the crocodile botherer) in the 7th would that effect romantic relationships even more then? Intense
-
-
-
Mystic how does one read another’s chart in relationship to your own (in laymans terms and the quick “idiots guide to” obviously if you have time) – if I print his out on transperancy stuff and lay it over mine is that how you look at it? I can never work out how you tell if something a square. I really want to learn how to do this properly. It seems like the ideal pastime as one inevitably grows old and wants to spend more time indoors. I have always seen myself doing it when I become a crone – it’s so much more logical than the other forms of divination I have practiced.
-
god damn, Merc retro got me again. I spent quite a long time replying to your question and then it failed to load. Too tired to do it all over again. Soz.
Check this site out. Lots of useful info:
http://cafeastrology.com/articles/synastry.html
I’m reading about my nodes at the moment:
-
many thanks SR – appreciate the effort anyhow – half the trouble I have with trying to search for things is knowing what exactly they are called – so synastry is the word I am looking for – a bit excited about this link – and the nodes are interesting too there’s plenty of food for thought there.
And Uber V with the statuary link I have finally worked out what those things lilith has in her hands are – snakes – there I was thinking they were like the grab handles on the trams in Melbourne – some kind of celestial grab handle, mystery solved. Re the owls feet she is always pictured with the owls – and another creature I haven’t been able to work out yet – there was an amazing national geographic feature of owls a few years ago that I stuck in my visual diary to use as inspiration for patterns (am now going to add some snakeskin patterns now too the velvety black green one sounds divine) – the owls are such beautiful creatures. Have been watching twin peaks of late – the owls are not what they seem
)-
The snake “handles” are borrowed from this ancient image of Ereshkigal:
http://abrahadabra.com/images/ereshkigal01.jpgLilith is associated with the screech owl, and so is the Welsh Goddess Bloddeuwedd (“Flower Face”), who is blamed for the death of the solar God Llew Llaw Gyffes.
-
Nice image Molly.
Interesting the whole ‘blame’ double standards thing in mythology.
The male deities can run around like pork chops, raping, pillaging and slaughtering, and there is no question of blame. I grant there are plenty of nasty self serving women in mythology as in life, but they’re judged more harshly.
But we needn’t even be nasty to get blamed. So often, a man loses his cool emotionally, so naturally a woman must have driven him to it. I’ve been expected to wear that one a few times.
Lilith as scapegoat?
-
Uber I agree wholeheartedly scapegoat was the archetype I was thinking was fitting too. And Molly that’s the image I will print to use as the inspiration for the tattoo. Now to work out where to put her ;O) Bloddeuwedd is interesting too – it’s not often you hear about the welsh goddesses, another path less googled.
I love that you shone your light on lilith Mystic – thank you.

orangeblossom, many thanks for that info! that is spot on, all of it, which is very interesting. im thinking too that my lilith in gem may assist my moon in aquarius in thinking, feeling etc. maybe its a good balance.

I so relate to this post
When at a party aged 18 years, the host had a huge python that he placed around my body.
Was wearing a silk dress & it slithered around me a la photo. It was seriously sexy beyond.
Had never felt anything so magic up til then. Thanks for the memory, Myst.Coincidentally, Butch texted me Sun am (never answered his 3 texts at NY) for a ‘wicked fun’ liaison
and a ‘thinking of you x’.
Stewed for 5 hours at his chutzpah, then replied ‘ sure, have a bottle of Moet Vintage chilled by the bed or 50mls of Jo Malone’s Gardenia or both OR call ‘Sharon Private’ at 200 an hour only.’
Needless to say there was no response. Have heard Saggo men are notoriously tight, & he always avoided me Birthday’s & Xmas, although i received a Lindt Bunny the first Easter as i asked for it.
(he was going to get Cadbury’s i think) Oh, & when i wanted a bottle of Champers for NY, he said he had a bottle of Seaview Brut in his fridge for X amount of years. To think the night before i pulled Kali..(asked him once who was the Goddess of Martial Arts & told him Quan Yin was)……she was also drawn in the trio ,to remind Kali that compassion works too??
Sheeesh, you would have to feel sorry for a man like him. So sad, so much potential wasted.
My satisfaction from that text to him totally overrode the fact that i had made myself a Whore (sacred of course), put a value on my time, and indicated he was a cheapskate.
Tight pocket.. tight heart, is the opposite to abundance mentality (it all grows back) is that where anal retentive comes from…a tightass? Won’t let anything go for fear it won’t be replaced? That’s a trust issue.Alchemist, thanks for your thoughts on the heatwave, hope you & your babies are cruising ok.
And luck to you for all the good things coming & have come your way. You seem to be on a nice roll.
Am just uncoordinated at mo. The vacuum dying is a great excuse to get the floors repolished to gleam
making them slidey & smooth enough to wipe over & a new super blender-extractor for health regime
extraordinaire.Love the rumor of Lillith refusing to do ‘procreation’ like the animals & wanted face to face preferably
on top = lesson #1 in Sexology:}
Spiders i like too ,to the point i call them all Matilda.
The Fool has no Fear-
oh what a tangled web your spinning around Butch (is that really his name?). Your still not over huh.
-
-
Now Lilith if I remember was the first wife of Adam ? or considered so by some Talmudic scholars.
-
Over him since Dec 1 hence the ability to send a truthful text.
HE wouldn’t let go. Now he will. He was emotionally expensive.
Butch is what i called him…(think Bogan & Jock combined).
For women it’s mostly about the father & it was with me.
He had the same eyes, hands & height & was a fighter, boxing not martial arts.
Text book stuff for sure. L’esprit boggles.YOU have realised what is important in life after much experience.
A loving woman who still turns you on..intellectual & metaphysical curiousity, creative abilities,
the love of your sprogs, to live out of the city, but visit for fun, the beach, good coffee
& lots of sex.
AND you appreciate it & count your blessings. -
Boggles my mind to think that lilith in aquarius can come out as a misuse of freedom…and being a little too in love with gadgets, technology…or alternatively fearful/resistant of them…though there is more, much more. Combine all that with my Scorp moon and hmm.
In and of it’s lilith self, I can see where I’ve at times subverted my own freedom. Tis and interesting thing to ponder the shadows.
-
I too have scorp moon LL – I concur is entirely mind boggling to consider that along with lilith and esp considering the upcoming pluto shenanigans. The way it manifests in my life is interesting and altho it is seen as vampish sexual potency by some astrologers – although not the lovely mystic thank goodness – I believe the dark moon has influence and manifests in other spheres of our lives just as strongly. Fascinating the shadows be – I love to shine a light them every so often and see what/who’s lurking.
-
Wonderful to read so many fierce goddesses sharing their experiences with Black Moon Lilith. BML is on my Asc in Pisces. When I learnt about BML in an astro workshop I was amazed at how so many pieces fell in place…
A (male) astrologer once warned me that BML on the Asc endowed some sort of mesmeric power over men… Apparently Picasso has BML rising as well. He does seem to stare a bit in pics – I wonder if this is what the astrologer meant? Or maybe it’s a power available only to women? Anyway, doubt this is true but sometimes I am wild and angry a la demoness.
Currently seeing a Cap that my witchy empath friend senses is committing fraud of some sort. His BML/Jupiter conjunction is conjunct my Venus. Keen to see how that plays out given the BML/Pluto transit has just passed his Sun.
-
I agree aello re the bits falling into place – have tried many times to get astrologers to tell me about it, mystic is one of the only ones who has ever done it without getting all toey about it – it’s as if they were scared she would be unleashed upon them if they uttered her name out loud. I just discovered my mothers lilith is smack bang on my midheaven – suddenly it all makes sense – doesn’t make it right ;o) but it does make sense. Fascinating.
Yours on your asc in Pisces sounds quite mystical and elusive – do you like horror / suspense / thrillers?
-
Apparently Lilith is big in France and Germany. Hard to find English texts on it though she does seem to be getting more interest…
Your mother’s Lilith on your MC. Wow that must (have been?) fun.
No, I don’t like that genre. They make me feel as if I’m being manipulated. And generally they revolve around ‘nasty’ subject matter… In true Neptunian style (it’s on my MC), I prefer to escape to a happy place.
Did I read somewhere that your BML was on your ASC too? What sign?
-
Oh nice – more light hearted ethereal manifest as opposed to dark. I have pisces MC and LOVE thrillers etc – I enjoy the feeling that someone has been able to “scare” me with the world they have created onscreen – and it’s for the same but polar reason – being manipulated and scared, but only because I know it will be over after a few hours. Interesting how the energy can be interpreted in a different way depending on where it is in the chart.
ASC Gemini – hence my two headed gravatar. Re the MC / Mother thing – dreadful – control issues, what about the neighbours, what if someone sees, you can’t do that, someone might see, always about someone else “seeing”. But now I get it and am going to try and see if there’s a way I can subvert the energy and use it for good. Have made some ground of late, aired some lifelong grievances and let it be known I will no longer be able to tolerate them in the form they were usually delivered in (because mothers don’t set out to harm I don’t think, but they do replicate patterns that have no place in an adults life, like they forget to change gear and still think you are under their control) but now with the lilith knowledge may get a bit further than I ever thought possible.
I’m going to babelfish and see if I can find out more about lilith by translating from french and german – thanks for the hot tip.
-
OB I just came across a phrase in a random article…the rest doesn’t jump out at me quite this much…thought you may find this interesting…
‘We look for Lilith in our charts to discover which defense mechanisms we employ to hide our wounding.’
-
that’s very interesting about Lilith. I have Lilith in Capricorn in 1st house. Boriiiiiiiiing.

Defense mechanism would be throwing myself into my work? I would say that has been true most of my life up until now. Trying to chill out more these days. -
SR – something I found while trawling around – take from it whatever resonates – or nothing at all
)LILITH IN THE 1st HOUSE lets you always fight impulsively and initiatively for liberalism and fairness. You have ingenuity and foam over with energy in relations, partnerships and public-referred interests. With sexual adventures you can get enticed easily and if someone offers a leading role to you, you take it without thinking. In this position there is a tendency to come into problematic situations repeatedly, and also to understand the life life-worthy only as a kind of nonstop action.
LILITH IN CAPRICORN lets you hardly resist to the temptations of fame, status and power. You could bring yourself into large difficulties, because you misjudge the actual naturenesses of these characteristics, or you don’t want to admit them at all. Problems in partnerships are usually resulting therefore in this position. You could tend to change your fellow beings and, in addition, to suppress their inner values completely. You look for autonomy, but perhaps won’t necessarily also grant it to others.
will find the link and paste it in momentarily
-
any interest in B & D ;o) doesn’t sound that boring to me….
-
ok some of this is a bit weird and worded clumsily – like it has been translated from something to english go to dubdubdub nmazca.com/coeli/lilith.htm
-
-
you crack me up OB. I think the 3 planets in Scorp might be another reason you like being “scared”. I don’t mind a good thriller but prefer horror, splatter, blood, guts and gore. Not violence though.
-
You have no idea how often I hear the words “you crack me up” and I never know why – it’s always when I’m being my most earnest or idealistic tho when I’m being so totally innocently me that it comes as a shock that I might be amusing to others. I have no idea why I crack u up but I’m glad I’ve made u happy
) I AM obsessed with lilith I know – it’s all so very insightful. LL I think that quote is apt – and also eerie – mothers lilith on my MC – I look like my father and he wounded her badly – imagine how that would be – always looking at the face of the masculine perpetrator of your wound but manifesting in a feminine form. If you’re a person inclined to acting autonomically you would find it hard to differentiate.
-
Oh I feel so cheated and used, I have just discovered the merc and venus are in libra – they are in the same house as the scorp planets but the are 1-2 degrees off in libra instead. They were vibing too big for the house haha that’s how I feel most of the time! So I’m not as scorped up as I though SR – although neptune and moon are def there.
-
I get that too OB when I’m being my most sincere, for some reason people often think I’m being very dry, or flippant…well anything but sincere.
I think the surge of enthusiasm throws them off a bit…
Anyways this was another Lilith site I found,
http://consciousevolution.com/metamorphosis/0402/goddess0402.htm
-
hee hee, well actually i’m a bit over B & D. I get over things pretty quickly especially when it becomes mainstream. I’m a massive music snob.
Thanks for the the trawl find. I guess when i found out my Lilith was in Cap i thought, yeah yeah whatever. I already have Capricorn rising so it would have been more interesting to have Lilith in another sign. Who needs more saturn in their chart? Pffft.
I think it’s cool that you’re so intrigued by Lilith but i can only give a quick peek. I’ve spent my whole life lurking in the shadows, hanging out with my demons but we are only fairweather friends now.
