The fabulous Turritopsis nutricula!

Rightio, so Mercury Retrograde belts onward & more gloriously bats headlines amidst the sombre Pluto-In-Cap themed ones.  This jellyfish is apparently immortal & everyone naturally wants to know some of his/her anti-aging secrets. Like a disco-fevered sort of a submarinal phoenix, Turritopsis destroys itself & is basically reborn – young again – the moment it feels ancient.

And, in news that is either a bit of a worry or a dodgy excuse for carbophilia, obesity is apparently catching. Yes, like a virus. Plus, I just thought of this a la some slef fluffery in which Jessica Simpson is doted on a bit for having gotten curvier I reckon putting on weight/ the bigger figure will be more ‘in’ along with Pluto In Capricorn. Looking emaciated may not have quite the catchet it did. Lean times, beefier bodies in trend? McDonalds sales are apparently up-up-up.

And speaking of money, I am longing to know the birth info for Natalie Dylan, the Women’s Studies student in the U.S. auctioning off her virginity to the highest bidder. Okay, I have just e-mailed her to ask & said in return for her birth data, would be completely happy to provide (in confidence) some timing tips for her first time.

(UPDATE! Just 20 mins after I e-mailed Ms Dylan re her birthtime, I get an e-mail thanking me for my consideration and asking for my phone number! It would be a Mercury Retrograde shocker if I somehow wind up mistakenly bidding in this comp. Have sent hasty e-mail clarifying. )

ANOTHER UPDATE: NATALIE DYLAN E-MAILED ME BACK & SHE IS A LEO!

Yes, Mercury is still Retrograde. Until Feb 1 – evening in Australia, very early AM in London, Sat night in LA. Just pretend it’s direct on Monday the 2nd of Feb to make it easier.

Oh and in minor news, the Leo-Rising-Aquarian-Rugger-Stud has re-surfaced, unperturbed by having been presumably off-planet for the long weekend & blithely as bats as usual.

the rugger bugger likes you obviously – unannounced annexing of personal space/time and being apparently unaware (yeah right!) it would have any effect on u – the games have begun – he likes the thrill of the chase but is used to being the chasee. With your ample knowledge of the signs you could really twist his melon… so 2 speak.

SHE IS AWESOME – what an inspiring young woman – this is interesting tho she says – at a university level “given permission” to think differently. What I am discovering about university is it makes you recite in your own words what others who have gone before you have said – as long as you reference them you will be rewarded. I am experiencing no feeling of freedom via the tertiary system whatsoever – maybe I need to take up women’s studies – but I avoid because you know, I’m the one who’s not into feminism in the intellectual sense… I do so love to see a “flipper” of the status quo in action and that young woman is in full flight.

I witnessed 12ish years ago a debutante’s ball where the fathers stood in a horseshoe shape ready to receive their daughters after their names had been “announced” in all their white finery and have a dance with them before they are dispatched into the big wide world. All I could think was these people are tripping (and I was related to some of them – they had to trick me into coming by not telling me what it was because they knew I’d be “subversive” in the lead up if I knew, why I had to witness it I’ll never know, THERE WAS A BUFFET with men in big hats and roasted carcasses everywhere) – ancient pagan symbolism being enacted in the upper echelons of polite society perpetuating chauvinism and cinderella complexes. Absurd.

One question tho – re the virgin – does it have to be a man plucks her flower? That’d be a nice twist – women like flowers too you know…

Auctioning off her virginity? That’s the way to do it. Still trying to get the refund for mine.

As for Jessica Simpson, apparently that booty she shakes in the rehash of ‘These boots are made for walkin” was a prosthetic.

    Long live carbs!

i think the whole auctioning off of virginity thing, signals a sad part of academia that means people have to behave as though they were in a reality tv show stunt to further their careers.

funding for universities is now at an all time low.

did anyone watch ‘fanny hill’ on tv the other day? extremely wishy washy compared to the book, but starts with a very similar senario, albeit the externally controlled time honoured one that this woman is ‘critiquing’ .

sorry to be all old school feminist (well not sorry actually), but this me thinks is cut off nose to spite face time for women’s studies.
    or naff performance art?

Have to agree with you ariesartist. I think the whole thing is really tacky. I thought a Leo would have more pride.

She comes across as very young, and fired up. I think she may be tapping into the exhibitionist leo-ness here, and using the academic studies as a cover of sorts to justify said exhibitionist leanings…also in my experience/ observations it’s very Leo to taboo bust.

There is something a little Madonna (singer)like here. That using the world as a stage to profit from their sexual image, and using what is usually most private about people to propel society attraction /repulsion …to self publicise. When I say profit, I don’t necessarily mean monetary. I profit emotionally mean from the attention this is drawing, and or intellectually from the possiblity of creating something uniquely tied to her own self.

Oh and fantasies, man this must be fueling some…very bloody Leo that. She has for the most part controlled the process also very lionessey.

If this fits within her own self image and value set, which she seems convinced that it does, she probably still feels she has her dignity.

Correction *** damn my typos are bad…

‘I profit emotionally mean from the attention’

          should be

‘I mean, profit emotionally from the attention.’

Just thought a bit more that reeks of leo…I think it’s an attempt to find her own boundaries and push, push push at other peoples. …Win/Win & also a pissed off Leo will do extreme things to tilt against a status quo they consider not sound.

Andy Warhol is another prime example of a Leo ready to mock, dismay and tilt at what is expected and make a career out of it.

Yep, nomatter how much you romanticise prostitution (which is what this is) you’re still gonna probably end up with some truck driver on speed who hasn’t had a shower for 3 days.

Mmmm, sexy! I feel so FREE! (not)

This is interesting – I stand by the awesome comment – putting it in context – she’s american – she is a product of their culture, it is all she knows and she is also apparently related to someone who is a sex worker. This means she moves in those circles already and sees no reason to question it as a pastime or vocation. To her it is normal. It’s all relative. Paris Hilton did it with someone she loved and got to be a porn star as well – American culture is not that savory at the best of times. This is obviously prostitution – that said I don’t have a problem with prostitution. It’s not a job I would do but it is a job – it’s not romantic but it is a form of employment.

Don’t get me wrong — I’m all for love – I am in it and it is the purest most beautiful feeling I have ever experienced – no amount of money could tempt me to trade it in. But other people take a more pragmatic approach. She is one of them, for whatever reason.

What is also interesting to me is that I thought feminism was all about being free to make your own choices on your own terms which is ultimately what she is doing. Isn’t it the patriarchy that has given prostitution a bad name? The first prostitutes were the vestal virgins and temple priestesses. Feminism is such a complex issue I fear I may never get to grips with it. It seems a lot of the time just like the patriarchy, there’s apparently so many rules to be applied.

I think there is a need for sex workers in our society. Ones who do it because they choose to – not the ones who are sold as slaves etc. Some people DO choose to do it. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it.

I am obviously swimming against the tide here but as far as I can tell sex is ultimately an exchange of energy. She is choosing to make an exchange of something watery and ultimately symbolic in and of itself – the idealised purity of virginity – for something earthly – some cash – would it be better if it were flowers and some dinners and then maybe a piece of gold for her finger? She has obviously applied some form of logic to her choice – whether or not others feel it is skew-whiff is immaterial – at least there has been reasoning involved. She’s not on the game to pay for her habit or whatever.

I see her proposed exchange in purely elemental terms and in the context of her as a product of the culture she has grown up in and I wish her well. That said I agree with those who feel it is a sad thing that almost everything has a price tag.

you just have to look at who she is getting to “broker” the deal, the creeeeeeeepiest brothel in Nevada, the Moonlite bunny ranch (sic), apparently her sister used to be a working girl there.

I am supremely suspicious towards any forms of prostitution as power (i am not denying that they may exist), and raunch culture style emancipation.

does everything have to have a dollar value? and how is that liberating?

I can understand the pushing boundaries, unsettling people etc. but I don’t see this as unsettling ANY of the people who pedal women for money, or men who ‘consume’ them.

I call it playing way safe actually.

Oh please let me be clear with this, although I may be able to project leo reasonings to this…I do not see it as ah cool, advisable, or without enormous personal risk to core of self, physical, emotional the whole nine yards.

There are a whole slew of ways to perhaps get her point across, but then it wouldn’t be so showy, or media friendly, (rampantly risky leo behaviour)…or well whatever else is in the mix.

Many women have put themselves through Uni/College & Degrees via escort or parlours in a discreet
polished way with no-one knowing & them smiling all the way to the bank.
This girl is giving sex a bad rap & she’s not well.
Brings to mind, (the bunny place) one of my fave books “Even Cowgirls get the Blues’ & the Red Rubber Rose Ranch in Texas or Nevada.
Made into a movie it had a superb caste altho the book is funnier.
I heard someone say yesterday ‘half the world is totally insane’.
